Jean-Luc Bédard graduated from the Quebec Maritime Institute after studying regional planning at the Université de Sherbrooke, and holds a long-term captain's certificate.
After a career as a navigator on merchant ships where he attained the rank of captain, he joined the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation and then the Port Authority of Montreal, where he worked for 24 years. years. He was first appointed Harbor Master and increased his responsibilities to the position of Vice President Operations, a position he held for 14 years until his retirement in 2014. As such he managed technical services and engineering, the grain terminal, the rail network, safety and security, the environment department, the harbor master's office and contributed to the overall direction and strategies of the company as a whole. as a member of the management team.
