St-Ulric - Mont St-Louis bathymetric survey
- 01 January 2016
Coastal erosion project with the UQAR Coastal Geoscience Research Chair. The study area extends from St-Ulric to Mont-St-Louis. With average annual erosion rates in the range of 0.5 to 2 m in many places, erosion of the coasts of the estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence differs little from the global trend. For a decade, the coasts have tended towards widespread erosion, and this phenomenon is evident even in some sectors by an important acceleration that seems very recent for the St. Lawrence. There is no indication that this phenomenon will diminish, on the contrary, in the context of climate change, erosion is expected to increase. As a large proportion of the world's population remains or practices coastal activities, it is not surprising that this issue has become a national priority for several countries.
